wave petunias and alyssum in a pot a great(kind of a easy carefree wave of color) nasturtium's plant from seed not only are the flowers cool but the leaves remind me of watermelons(if you plant from seed soak over night in Luke warm water and don't fertilize they don't bloom good when fertilized) callendulas again plant from seed mix with alyssum or lobelia kind of like funky marigolds then pull seed heads after blooming to keep seeds until next year all of these flowers are constant bloomers through out the summer basically carefree except for watering.
Im looking for nice easy to care for flowers i can plant in pots on my apt balcony. any suggestions?
It depends on the amount of light your balcony gets. For shade I would recommend coleus or impatiens. For sun you could put together a pretty mixture of pansies, violas and petunias.
Another idea would be to grow some vegetables like tomatoes and cucumbers or zucchini. I've grown these in hanging planters upside down. I cut a 2.5 diameter hole in the bottom of a plastic pot, put landscape fabric inside the pot around the hole, put the plant in the hole and snug the landscape fabric around the stem. Block up some of the drain holes in the pot with rocks as the pot will loose lots of water through the large hole. Next fill the pot with soil and hang with a plant hanger. I made macrame hangers.
Reply:Dahlias, if you get a lot of sun. They can go through droughts, and produce flower after flower all summer long. They also come in just about any color and size. From little 6inch plants to some that are 4-5 feet tall. I love them!
Reply:"wave petunias". They are beautiful and come in about 4 colors. As they grow, they cascade down the pots. They will grow in part sun, full sun, drought, etc. You didn't mention where you live. Good luck!
Reply:hydraneas should come up every year in OK. if you want something for the summer mandevillas are perfect. they are tropical, but really beautiful
Reply:Geraniums, Marigolds, Petunias, Salvia, Celosia.
