What flower(s) should I choose for my balcony?

I'd like to buy a pot or two of flowers for my apartment balcony. What's a nice durable flower that can (1) survive a lot of direct sunlight and (2) can survive with little sunlight? I'd also prefer something that might forgive me for not watering every single day. I'm lazy and forgetful so it might go thirsty for a day or two.

Anyway, for you more experienced balcony flowerers, what are your favorite types?

What flower(s) should I choose for my balcony?
I have personally found that Zinnia Pinwheels are perfect for this exact thing. They are super easy to grow and are very forgiving and can take the drought for a few days. They come in variety of colors and don't grow to be too tall (about 12 inches). Just be sure they are the Pinwheel variety, they are they prettiest and shortest of all Zinnias. Good Luck!
Reply:They have cascading petunias that kind of vine out and then ivy is cool also for that. Those items would be good because they hang over the pot and probably over through your railing just a little. And then I would put one of those spikes plants in the middle.

And maybe some moss roses also.
Reply:blue salvia is pretty forgiving and likes sunlight....snapdragons and petunias are as well. Impatients are nice for shade, but do NOT like to be thirsty. Pansies are another one that are okay for shade, or violets or violas...coleus though would be best for shade and they don't get too angry if you forget to water them ;)
Reply:Here are some photo's with great looking containers for your balcony:

Some of the plants in planters are wave petunias, sweet potato vines, lemon gem marigolds, blue salvia, red salvia, white cleome , vinca vines , annual brown eyed susans, and etc.

All these are great for lots of sun and all easy to take care of...as they require little care.
