I would like trailing flowers for a pot and need them to be in bloom in April, have I left it too late?
Are there any flowers I can plant now that will flower in April?
Go to your garden centre about middle/late march, they will have an abundance of plants, either in bud or in flower. They will be in pots so you can plant them with any disturbance to their growth. One word of warning, a lot of these plants will have been forced in greenhouses, so make your selection from the plants outside, not indoors, then leave them out to harden off at home. I see you want trailing plants, take a look at the following :-
Arabis caucasica, cascading habit, masses of intense white small blooms.
Aubretia deltoidia, red to pink, trailing habit
Alyssum saxitile, bright yellow, cascading
Early clematis ( c. apina and c,petala) bloom in April. These are the jewels in the crown at this time of the year, they will display their spellbinding flowers in abundance as they trail and tumble over almost anything.
There are lots of others too.
Just nip along to the garden center, you'll be pleasantly surprised
Reply:Provide more information about where you live. That will have am impact on the answers you get. I live in on the gulf coast so I have already started seeds indoors to be put out once we pass our "last frost date" in March.
Reply:Knowing what part of the world you are from would help. Assuming that you are from the Northern hemisphere and someplace that is cold right now, your options are limited, even if you have a greenhouse. Your best choice for trailing plants in a pot would be a florist or local (not big box store) garden center. Contact one now and inquire as to what may be coming available in April so that they could order it for you. The further south you are the better the chances of finding something blooming in April are.
