How do you keep squirrels out of your flower beds?

Squirrels keep digging up my flowers that I have in pots and they also are digging in my flower bed. How do I keep them out without haveing to use something harmful to my two dogs?

How do you keep squirrels out of your flower beds?
Squirrels are buggers to keep away. I've always use Moth Balls, not the crystals, you just sprinkle them around the garden. I always made sure there were one or two around the base of the plant. It worked great in the spring time when the bulbs were just starting to sprout. The smell kept them away. If you think that your dogs might get to nosing around, you could try cayenne pepper, that has worked too.
Reply:Give them to me. I'd like to have them around. They're entertaining, smart, cute, and funny. Report It

Reply:Either put up a fake owl statue above your garden.... or you could try following daguk's idea!
Reply:When I brush my cat I put the hair in small clumps around my plants. That seems to work for me.
Reply:Get a dog or gun
Reply:Shoot the little bastards!!!
Reply:I find the best thing is a sign 'NO SQUIRRELS ALLOWED' is useful also moving to iceland is quite handy but the penguins can be a little annoying
Reply:Get a dog my dog loves chasing them and it keeps him in shape
Reply:Go to a local salon and get hair that has been cut off and place hidden in the flower beds the human smell keeps the squirrels away.
Reply:Black pepper or red pepper...
Reply:shotgun
Reply:Feed them bird seeds away from your flower beds. Do NOT feed them corn or any kind of nuts because they bury them.
Reply:My favorite is to put sweet-gum balls in the flower bed.. You can also lay chicken wire down in the flower bed. Just mist (only the pot NOT the plant) with white vinegar. Cayenne pepper works until it rains.
Reply:If you sprinkle a ton of ground cayenne pepper on the ground, the squirrels will hate it. But it washes away with each watering, so go to a bulk retailer and buy a huge container of cayenne pepper. You can also use a product called Liquid Fence. It's made from putrescent eggs and garlic so don't put it where you're going to smell it.
