What kind of plants/ flowers to plants in pots in hot country (Cyprus)?
Hi

First anything you put in a pot will need some water, especially if you leave it in full sun for part of the day.

Geraniums are great and my favourite - colourful, flower all year and don't need much water - they will even come back to life if you neglect them for a while!

Bougainvillea do look good too but they like to send out big roots so I don't think suit a pot so well.

I like to put fresh herbs in pots - look and smell great and they are so useful in cooking - Basil grows like wildfire in summer and the Cypriot kind wards off mosquitos too. Parsely and coriander work well and keep reseeding themselves too but they do need more water.

Also try jasmine with little white flower - gorgeous smell and once established needs little water.

My favourite bush which would work well in a BIG pot is solano - purple flower ALL year round and looks fab.

Good luck
Reply:OK we have our normal cactus. There are many varieties that usually all flower at this time of year. aloe vera for instance and the rest i will not bore you with the names. They are so versatile because you should be able to take a piece from another plant and grow it in your garden no hassle. They reproduce quite a lot so look about before buying.

Geraniums grow strong and hard in warm countries but will need water from time to time. Honey suckle are quite resistant as are Bougainvillea . they produce the most beautiful flower and you can place the pots beside your house.

Ivy

English Lavender

Tropaeolum majus (Nasturtium)

I live in Ibiza and had to do quite a bit of research before getting my garden together. I have all of the above plants and more in my garden. Good luck which what ever you choose.
